Weather FM
Weather FM is a generative audio piece that turns live weather data into an ever-changing ambient composition. Changes in rainfall, temperature, humidity, rainfall, cloud coverage, and wind speed are reflected in variations in musical parameters, such as tonal palette, density and space of harmonic and percussive elements, and pacing and frequency of notes. A generative visual, contour lines grown from the listener's coordinates, sits behind the piece as its own quiet, wordless response to place.
The project is an experiment in listening as a method for tuning into the weather, and stems from my interest in deep listening and developing methods for increasing ecological awareness.
